Introduction to African Dance. Take a mental visit to Africa via our dance studio in October, learning some basic West African dance moves with Etienne Cakpo, master dancer and teaching artist from Benin. Etienne offers an accessible but rigorous introductory class in contemporary West African dance, with movements adapted from traditional dances. As the artistic director of Gansango African Music & Dance Company, Etienne has lived and taught in Seattle since 2000. Etienne’s company, Gansango Music & Dance works with libraries, schools and independent arts agencies to make African dance and music performances available to a wide range of audiences, including youth. Slip off your shoes, slip on workout clothing (or an African wrapper), and let’s dance!
